Cast iron cooking is as popular now as it was centuries ago. As in the past, today’s cooks have discovered that cast iron skillets, griddles, pots, pans, Dutch ovens and other types of cast iron cookware  are capable of producing an amazing array of delicious, home cooked meals.  We have collected hundreds of recipes over the years and we hope you will use them to create some great cast iron cooking for your family and friends.

This delicious treat is perfect for birthday parties to picnics. If you can use a microwave, you can make scrumptious corn dogs that your friends and family will love. Just remember to use wooden skewers (found easily in your neighborhood grocery store) and serve!

Cooking Instructions:

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 5-10 minutes

*Makes about 10 servings

Ingredients:

- Oil for frying
- 1 package of hotdogs
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar (if wanted)
- 2/3 cup cornmeal
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- ? cup milk (or buttermilk)
- 1 egg

Cooking Steps:

A) Set your cast iron deep fryer to 350 degrees to preheat your oil.
B) Cook the hotdogs using the microwave while the oil is heating in the fryer.
C) In a large bowl mix the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cornmeal. Then, in another bowl, mix the butter, milk, and egg (you will stir this mixture into the dry batter). Once the two bowls are combined and mixed well set the batter aside.
D) Next, stick the wooden skewers into the hotdogs and coat each hotdog with the freshly stirred batter.
E) (Your cast iron fryer will be VERY hot) With the upmost caution, place your coated hotdogs into the fryer and take them out when they turn a golden brown color. Wipe off excess oil with a paper towel and serve while hot.
