Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven
The classic cast iron Dutch oven has been used for centuries
around the world. Many people simply call it a cast iron pot and it remains of one the most populcat pieces
of cast iron cookware. It is typically made to be very thick and heavy, which makes it extremely durable and
provides some of the excellent heat transfer qualities associated with this type of iron pots, pans and
fryers.
Cast iron cooking is a tradition that is very much alive today, having been passed down over the
centuries by several generations of cooks and chefs. The characteristics and qualities possessed by this type of
cookware that endeared it to cooks centuries ago remain relevant today and is why iron cookware can still be found
in kitchens around the world.
One of the most notable characteristics of these sturdy pots and pans is their ability to cook
food evenly, and this is especially true of cast iron Dutch ovens, including the more modern enameled versions. Several famous chefs and
cooks have become huge fans of enameled cast iron cookware, with the reliable Dutch oven being one of their
favorite and most used utensils.
Cast iron cookware can withstand very high heat and can spread this
heat evenly. The enameled versions can still spread the heat evenly however it reduces its ability to withstand
very high heat. It doesn’t diminish its versatility that much because it can still withstand the heat of typical
stovetop nor your regular kitchen oven just don’t use it on campfires and open flames because the heat is not
that controlled and might get too high which might damage the enamel coating. Nevertheless do not shock it
with cold water because the enamel will crack. You should let it cool down before washing it. However, washing
is still a breeze because the enamel makes it very easy to clean due to its smooth
surface.
Enameled cast iron
cookware has some additional qualities when compared to the regular unseasoned and pre-seasoned ones.
The enamel coating actually allows you to cook acidic foods in your cast iron. Due to the glassy enamel coating,
the iron will not mix with your food thus preventing any chemical reaction. And, there’s no need to cure or to
season your enameled cast iron cookware of the coating, which is a huge time
saver!
