  
Southern Fried Shrimp and
Oysters
Cast iron cooking is as popular now as it was centuries ago. As in
the past, today’s cooks have discovered that cast iron skillets, griddles, pots, pans, Dutch ovens and other
types of cast iron cookware are capable of producing an amazing array of delicious, home cooked
meals. We have collected hundreds of recipes over the years and we hope you will use them to create

This deep fried creation will have your guests begging for
seconds. And in the future, keep in mind that you can really use any mixture of fish and seafood for a fried
creation like this. And be careful when using the fryer!
Cooking Instructions:
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cooking
Time: 3 minutes per batch
*Makes about 6 servings
Ingredients:
- Oil for deep fryer
- 2 dozen large shrimp
- 1 dozen shucked oysters
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons Creole or spicy mustard
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- Salt and pepper
- 3 cups self-rising cornmeal
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
Cooking Steps:
A) Heat the oil using your cast iron pan or deep fryer, to 375 degrees (takes 10 minutes).
B) In a large bowl, mix the egg, milk, 1 cup of water, and mustards. Then when mixed thoroughly evenly
season with salt and pepper.
C) In another bowl mix the cornmeal and garlic. Again, season with salt and pepper.
D) Evenly coat the seafood into the egg mixture and then into the dry mix then carefully set into the
fryer.
E) Cook each batch for 3 minutes, and then carefully remove. Serve hot and enjoy!
