Tasty Beef and Cabbage Skillet

Cast iron cooking is as popular now as it was centuries ago. As in the past, today’s cooks have discovered that cast iron skillets, griddles, pots, pans, Dutch ovens and other types of cast iron cookware  are capable of producing an amazing array of delicious, home cooked meals.  We have collected hundreds of recipes over the years and we hope you will use them to create some great cast iron cooking for your family and friends!

Cooking Instructions:

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup cabbage, chopped, 1/2 head
1 cup long-grained raw rice
15 ounce can tomato sauce
6 ounce can tomato paste
2 cups water
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 bay leaf

Cooking Steps:

Take ground beef and put in a cast iron skillet to brown, stirring to break up the meat into smaller pieces. Next, mix in the onion, green pepper, cabbage, and rice. Take the tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, and seasonings and stir all into the skillet. Heat the entire mixture to boiling. Reduce to a simmering heat, cover the skillet for about 25 minutes, and stir every few minutes. Allow to simmer longer if the rice needs more time to fully cook. More water may be added if needed.
